The more than five hundred schools in the Toronto District School Boards have developed a wide range of school-based dress codes. These codes often subject students of colour, female presenting students, and gender nonconforming students to disproportionate attention, and disproportionate discipline, from school staff.

At long last, however, the TDSB’s Appropriate Dress Policy has been revised. The new Student Dress Code Policy is open for consultation until February 28.

The End Dress Codes collective has worked to convince the Board of the need for a revised policy, and to expedite the revision process. We are eager to collaborate with students, parents and guardians, teachers, and administrators who share our vision of a Dress Code Policy that unambiguously promotes equity.
